Fashion icon Jean Paul Gautier has released “Night and Day”, the first campaign in his role as creative director for Diet Coke. The campaign pays homage to many of Gaultier’s famous collections and will run throughout 2012. “Night” comes in a corset style reminiscent of Gaultier’s catwalk designs, embellished with a lace and fishnet design. “Day” was inspired by the designer’s signature Breton stripes with the red bottle cap resembling a French beret. A third design, “Tattoo”, will be released later in the year.

Jean Paul Gaultier said: “The brand asked me to explore its fun personality and to style the bottle. I want to show people the codes and signatures I love. The bottles have the shape of a woman’s body, so it was great fun to ‘dress’ them. The Diet Coke motif is so beautiful I had to design around this. The finishing touch was to apply my logo to the bottle, like applying a fragile stamp – making it something special you want to touch”.

The Night and Day bottles are available in nine countries through Europe from today, including a collector’s set with limited-edition Diet Coke glass featuring the iconic Jean Paul Gaultier blue and white stripes.

ERUPTIONS THAT SHOOK THE WORLD

Imagine the perfect storm. A series of severe volcanic eruptions engulf the globe, spewing ash and sulphur into the atmosphere, causing widespread chaos on our intricate global economy, impacting our ability to grow food and grounding trans-continental air travel.

This fantastic scenario is the subject of Dr Clive Oppenheimer’s lecture Eruptions that shook the world on March 13 at this year’s Cambridge Science Festival. The Festival is the UK’s biggest free science festival and this year runs from March 12-25.
